The bird Box

This fairy-tale bird box is just right for two love birds, with free use of the bubbling outdoor hot tub

Nestled in the bank, at the bottom of Honeyside Down’s wild wooded garden, you’ll find this self-contained, compact and bijou wooden ‘Bird Box’: a romantic hideaway.

Inside, the chunky log stairs, solid wood benches and rustic table give the fairy-tale cabin a warm and cosy feel and the thoughtful features will delight the most stylish of glampers. Foodies will love serving up delicious dishes in the Box’s kitted out kitchen before relaxing under the stars and ‘candlelit’ trees with a bubbly soak in the open-use Canadian cedarwood hot tub shared with your nearby neighbours in Humble Bee, Nutshell and the self-catering property. Once completely relaxed, retire to the upper floor love nest, complete with king-sized bed, fur deer skins, plump cushions and warm wool carpets. The en suite shower room is made suitably rural with a small basin made from a calf feeding trough as well as a tin shower and slightly more conventional black loo.

The morning sun is your wake up call, filtering in through the Bird Box’s shutters and French door windows. Head downstairs and step out onto the veranda to enjoy your morning coffee alongside beautiful views of the park and the river way down below. If you’re looking to fly the coop for the day, wind down with an afternoon cream tea in the pretty and eclectic town of Okehampton or comb the very different north and South Devon coast lines to discover hidden gems and rugged and natural surfers’ paradises, both within an hour’s reach of The Bird Box.
